Worst Allergy Season Yet?
Here we go again. Experts are predicting a pretty dire fall for those suffering with allergic rhinitis, or seasonal allergies. The usual suspects are to blame – unseasonably warm weather, coupled with a higher incidence of major meteorological events such as floods and hurricanes. All this can cause pollution, dust, ragweed and other particulates to circulate far more energetically in the air we breathe than they have in past decades.
Clocking the surge, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America notes that 40 million Americans suffer from the symptoms of seasonal allergies, and that too many people continue to mistake these symptoms for common colds and flu:
The [Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America] warned that many people often confuse their allergies with cold or flu, which could lead to misdiagnosis and delayed treatment.
“AAFA encourages the approximately 40 million Americans who suffer from seasonal allergies to learn more and consult an allergy specialist for proper diagnosis and treatment of seasonal allergy symptoms,” Mike Tringale, vice-president of external affairs at AAFA, said in a press release.
