Why See a Sinus Surgeon
As an experienced ENT and sinus surgeon, I am often asked how one can ever know when surgery is necessary. Patients are understandably keen to avoid a major procedure if at all possible, especially when there are so many medications that have helped millions manage sinus symptoms without surgery.
The short answer is this: Sinus surgery is the best option when all other options have been exhausted. If steroids have kept your inflammation in check, for instance, then you may not need sinus surgery. If antibiotics have cleared up your infection and it has not returned, then you’re fine. And if lifestyle changes – getting help for allergies, investing in a humidifier or air filter – have resolved the issue, then you may never need to use the word anesthesia again.
But sinus surgery is what’s next; the thing to do if responsible, medical interventions haven’t helped the problem.
At the Los Angeles Sinus Institute, I offer a number of sinus procedures for a variety of ailments:
The principal advantage of sinus surgery can be boiled down to a single word: permanence. Surgery, by its nature, changes the anaotomy of your sinuses, helping to open airways, promote drainage and stave off recurring infections. There is simply no reason to keep visiting the doctor each year for the same ailment; surgery may be able to solve it for good.
If you have chronic or frequently recurring sinus symptoms, I recommend making an appointment with a sinus surgeon today.
