Even More Support for the Neti Pot
The Washington Post has published another analysis of the study I mentioned earlier this week, but the new article offers an important caveat which should be noted before readers begin using the neti pot dozens of times a day:
Data on sinusitis symptoms came from the participants’ responses during periodic assessments. Whether more frequent use of steam or irrigation treatments would have been more effective was not tested.
This is an important point because we don’t know where the point of diminishing returns might fall. It’s possible that over-irrigating can injure the flora in your sinuses and promote recurring problems down the line. It is also possible that once-weekly irrigation isn’t nearly as effective as a daily wash. Further study is needed to determine how and when the neti pot is at its most effective.
That said, if you have ongoing sinus pain or pressure that doesn’t respond to nasal irrigation, the problem may have moved beyond the reach of saline. Contact the best sinus doctor in Los Angeles to make an appointment for a full diagnostic workup today.
