A Novel Way to Fight Sinus Congestion
The Huffington Post recently published one of their perennial roundups of remedies for sinus problems. The list covers familiar ground, recommending steam, irrigation, and clean living above all else.
But one item on the list was novel: vibration. As the HuffPo explains with a wink:
First, vibrate your sinuses with a small body massager or vibrator—yes, it can be that kind of vibrator (!) or you can try a face vibrator …—to help loosen and dislodge thick mucus. Set the vibrator to low, place it on your cheekbones and run along the bone toward your nose to open up the maxillary sinuses, for a few minutes. . . .Then put your head over a bowl of hot water mixed with a sprig or two of herbs like thyme, peppermint, and oregano mixed together. Put a towel over your head to catch the steam. Afterwards, dry your face and vibrate for a few minutes again.
This is not an April Fool’s joke, nor is it a frivolous suggestion. It is a fact that the viscous consistency of dried mucus can make it notoriously hard to dislodge. Vigorous agitation can sometimes do the trick, especially when used in tandem with warmth or humidity to soften the mucus.
